Tight Pants Got You Down? 3 Reasons Why & How Boxing Helps in 2025
Between the cookies, the candy, and the countless holiday meals, I may have overdone it a bit. Does this sound like you too?
Here are 3 reasons why your pants may be tighter than normal and how boxing can get you back on the right path.
There has always been a connection between too much food and the holiday season.
I get it.
Those last 2 months of the year include multiple get togethers, company parties, and holiday treats everywhere you turn.
But not only that, you may utter these words, “I deserve to enjoy myself” or “It’s only once a year”.
I’m not here to judge, but to let you know you are not alone. Let’s dive right in and shed some light on 3 reasons for weight gain and how boxing can help in 2025.
1) It’s the Food
How often have you looked at the calories in your typical holiday meals and treats? Let’s take a look at a few popular items that people over indulge in during the holidays. These numbers are approximate based on the amount.
- EggNog with Rum ~270
- Apple Martini ~150
- Pecan Pie ~500
- Fruit Cake ~366
- Fudge ~230
- Caramel Popcorn ~120
The numbers may not look intimidating, but how often do you stop at one piece or one drink during the holidays (if you indulge). With all the hype going around you, it’s easy to be nonchalant about how much you are taking in.
But don’t beat yourself up too much. It’s a new year to make better choices.
2) Constant Social Events
How many times were you invited out to a friend’s get together during November and December? How many holiday treats were just sitting around in the workplace? Too many to count right?
You can’t escape it. Food is everywhere you turn. Even just dropping off a gift for a friend could be reciprocated with an invite to have some cake. Or if you went to visit your hometown and ran into an old high school classmate and wanted to catch up over drinks.
These encounters add up and many times it’s not so easy to say “No”. But in the moment, you are not thinking about the increased amount of social gatherings, but happy to be around family and friends for a good time.
3) Decreased Physical Activity
When daylight savings ends in November, it throws off our internal clock and our mood changes, which causes people to feel more tired and less motivated during the day. And if you don’t have the will power built in, getting in a workout when it’s already cold and dark is not as easy as it seems.
So with the reduced physical activity due to fatigue and also the increased amount of travel, parties, and cooler temperatures, your exercise routine may not be as consistent which may cause the additional weight gain.
And of course, why not just wait and get back on your grind the first of the year. At least that’s when the media says it’s okay to kickstart everything again. The incentive to keep up with your workouts and physical activity tends to drop during the last two months of the year.
Time to Take Action
These aren’t all the reasons for weight gain during the holidays, but just a few that you can keep in mind for the upcoming year. Remember, the occasional indulgence is okay, but it’s important to find ways to stay active and monitor your food choices.
